These are just some of the items you'll find at the Collectively Operated Local Artists Boutique (C.O.L.A.B.). More than a dozen artists communally run the space dedicated to serving the community with handmade fashions and accessories for men, women and children. Approximately 95 percent of the hippie-dippy goods are handmade by local designers such as Sticker Club Girl Fashions and Spraygraphic Apparel. Since there's no middle man or woman, those earrings, lingerie and hats are sold to the public at very affordable prices. The space also features monthly First Friday exhibits with an emphasis on textile design."

The Conspiracy to Inspire
Conspire is an offshoot of COLAB, and previous to that The Downstairs Collective. Some of the founding members from COLAB and Downstairs are a part of this new project including Joey G of Mob Action, and myself Lisa Jacobs aka Sticker Club Girl, as well as several others. There a few main ingredients that make this new venture a whole new thing include the people, the space, and the concept. There all new people involved in this project with new ideas and new goals. The space is almost a thousand square feet, triple that of any spot we have ever had. Conceptually this project will be different as well. Instead of being limited to a hand made fashion group space, we will be including a wide variety of arts, crafts, and hand made goods along with a strong presence the unique, hand made, artistically designed fashion and accessories that we have previously been known for. We also will have studio space available for use by our main members. In this working studio we will be offering classes and workshops for the community to participate in. The Anarchist Library will be available for use. Sticker Club Art Night will move to the new space, free for local peeps to hang together and be creative. And...we have many more tricks up our sleeves. With this new business, located at the South East corner of 5th St and Garfield, we will Conspire to make things and make things happen! New people are welcome to become involved in this venture. Their are a variety of membership opportunities available to promote a wide variety of custom made fashion, arts, and crafts media. The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [SMoCA] presents "Sputnik:" Summer SMoCA Nights on Thursday, June 21, from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. SMoCA Nights is the exclusive tri-annual nightlife event where the Museum is transformed into the ultimate art party, complete with artists, fashion, DJs, bands and performers, for an eclectic evening of cutting-edge culture. This summer event launches the premiere of SMoCA's new exhibition "Space is the Place." In true space-age fashion, the event will be complimented by a range of futuristic delights-from the cache of 50s & 60s retro Sci-Fi, where we look 'back to the future,' to interpretations that lie beyond in our own 21st Century. To accompany this time-travel notion, the evening's fashion show will feature a fusion of vintage and futurism under the artistic direction of Ethan Murray and the creative team behind Urban Hair & Retro Redux.
Among the highlights will be a cosmos of live music, art and performances including spacey ambience by the electronica twosome "Alcoholiday," galactic sounds to set the tone of the runway by Seattle's DJJD and hypnotic moves by Déja Dance. Guests will also witness on-the-spot urban art from the Alphamonster art collective, painting some of the great things that come from outer space.
Guests can mingle in SMoCA's galleries to catch four new summer exhibitions: "Space Is The Place," "Modern(ist) Love: the Dorothy Lincoln-Smith and Harvey K. Smith Collection," "Contemporary Scandinavian Art," and the not-to-miss "southwestNET: drawing outside the lines" exhibition--the innovative group show with regional artists including work by our very own Valley art-stars Angela Ellsworth, Adria Pecora, Deborah Salac, Jen Urso and Steven Yazzie. Be sure to watch artist Jen Urso in the gallery with the unpredictable "drawing" (and melting) effects of ice in her performance titled "Ice Flow."
As always, SMoCA Nights will be featuring free appetizers, a cash bar, prizes and other rotating surprises including some delightfully cosmic accouterments from Retro Redux the new Red Hot Robot store. SMoCA Nights attendees will have the chance to get their hands on a limited edition kidrobot® Robo-Dunny as well as fab vintage pieces from the Sputnik era. Plus, astronaut coiffure survival kits from SHARPS barber & shop will be available, along with some Phoenix Valley creative "mission control" from the likes of the new PROVOKE magazine. Also back by popular demand, tarot readings by OZMA to help all of us see the future more clearly!
