“COFFEE, COOKIES & CRAFTS 2” BRINGS INDIE CRAFT CELEBRATION BACK TO
BRAGG’S PIE FACTORY, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6

Phoenix, AZ (October 24, 2010) – Announcing the second “Coffee, Cookies & Crafts” independent craft event to be held at Bragg’s Pie Factory on Saturday, November 6 from noon to 5:00 pm. This free event will be a celebration of local, independent arts and crafts, with activities for the whole family and a special bottle cap-themed craft challenge.

The afternoon will offer a variety of activities including local vendors selling handmade goods, crafting demos, kids’ crafts, and a craft supply swap. Attendees will get to enjoy a pop-up coffee lounge with free coffee and sweets from local bakeries.

Coffee, Cookies & Crafts 2 will take place among the second annual Trashy Sculpture Show at Bragg’s Pie Factory featuring artwork made entirely of recycled and reclaimed materials. If you haven’t had a chance to see this year’s trashy sculpture, this is your opportunity!

NEW! BOTTLE CAP CRAFT CHALLENGE As a special attraction, vendors, local artists and other community members will be making crafty creations using recycled bottle caps. Items will be part of a special display, along with the Trashy Sculpture Show.

Crafting demos will include YUDU screen printing demos by Sarah Spencer and Cyndi Coon, a body scrub making demo with Strawberry Hedgehog, and more.

The craft supply swap is open to everyone. Attendees are invited to bring old craft supplies and swap with others. Tables will be provided for the craft swap. Kids’ crafts will be organized throughout the day in a special area. Kids will be able to take home their very own creations. There is no charge to participate in the craft swap or the kids’ crafts.

Local vendors will include annieWHERE, B Harrison Arts, Cameo Strings, Cherry Forever, Donna Atwood Designs, Elysian Art, Happy Girl & Angry Boy, Johanna Ingram, Kenzie Noelle Designs, Keri Mosier, Lepoo, Lila-Jo, Meadow Artistic Creations, Moderncat Studio, Paper Expressions, Pretty in Peace, Runz With Scissors, Sandra Risner, Stanley Moon’s, Starving Artist Bazaar, Space Cadet, Pink Bow Bath Boutique, Strawberry Hedgehog, Urban Adornments, ZonieBaskets, and more. The Cow Project and So Sudan from the AZ Lost Boys Center will also be selling their handmade cow sculptures and sewing and bead crafts, with all proceeds benefitting the AZ Lost Boys Center.

A sneak peak...

I am super excited about the fashion show this weekend, at Bragg's Pie Factory. This lovely event is part of The Second Annual Grand Ave Festival. It is a full day of art, fashion, music, and culture. I have been sewing up a storm to get ready, and my studio bares the mess of fabric and threads to prove it. I love the latest fabrics I have acquired and stashed away for Fall. With a new season comes new inspiration and ideas for color and design. I have been working with deep jewel tones, bold patterns, and rich texture, all with a vintage flare. Here are a few photo to give a sneak peak at the newest pieces in my fall collection. September 25th, 2010 Grand Avenue Local Designer Fashion Show featuring Sticker Club Girl

WITHOUT APOLOGIES: CELEBRATING THE DOWNTOWN PHOENIX FASHION COMMUNITY

Without Apologies is a celebration of the downtown Phoenix fashion community, taking place as part of the 2010 Grand Avenue Festival on Saturday, September 25. This series of three fashion events will be held at Bragg’s Pie Factory starting at 5:00 pm and continuing through the evening. The events will feature local boutiques, designers, and creative artists of Downtown Phoenix for a day without apologies.


Starting at 5:00 pm, the Untrashed recycled rubbish fashion show will feature wearable art made from re-purposed, reclaimed, and recycled trash. Garments will be modeled in the fashion show and then displayed alongside other delicious reclamations in the Trashy Sculpture Show for the following two months. The show will also feature a trash percussion band and typewriter corps and special performances to make the old new again.


At 7:00 pm fashions from a number of independent downtown fashion boutiques will take center stage. This is a chance to see the latest finds and hottest looks from Dragonfly Boutique, Butter Toast Boutique, Phoenicia Association, and Blueberry Deluxe Boutique. The show will be accompanied by sounds from DJ Nico.


Finishing off the night at 9:00 pm, local designers will show off their latest original fashion designs in a show that’s sure to be standing room only. This year the show will feature the work of Wicked Wear (Cia Underwood), Arte Puro, Wiskc (Kelly Calabrese), MLE Jean (Emily Blanche), and Sticker Club Girl (Lisa Michelle Jacobs) with music by DJ HeartBreaks.

All three events are free and open to the public. Free parking is allowed along Grand Avenue during the festival and in the parking lot behind Bragg’s Pie Factory, located at 1301 W Grand Ave.

My vintage coffee mug collection featured!

While it is known that I love arts, crafts, D-I-Y culture, vintage goods, fashion, and the like, it is a lesser known fact that I love collections. As a collector of collections, a connoisseur of accumulation, and a diva of the treasure trove, I have amassed large groupings of ordinary, yet historic, objects that when shown in an arrangement with their counterparts, capture the heart and dazzle the eye.
Brass butterflies flutter around my house, vintage fabric towers and tumbles in my studio, and mid-century coffee mugs stack up on display shelves in my living room. These coffee mugs are now the objects that give endorsement to my addiction.
Phoenix New Times has started a new blog called Jackalope Ranch. This lovely blog is dedicated to the arts, culture, and collections that abound in the valley of the sun. Bay Area Maker Faire 2010

Gearing up for summer with a quick trip to San Francisco! Just as the school year ends and my crafting season begins, I am going to go get motivation and inspiration at the Bay Area Maker Faire, a 2 day handmade, D-I-Y, crafts, festival that features the the best in innovative projects and processes for those who love to make things. Check it out at makerfaire.com. Make and Craft Zine, two of my favorite quarterly reads, are parents to this event. The whole weekend is dedicated to the D-I-Y lifestyle and the makers who live it. I will be embarking upon this adventure with my long time craft accomplice Lacie Murphy of Laciebug Designs! We plan to see it all and do as much as one San Francicso weekend will allow. It is sure to be a delightful debauchery in technicolor crafty-ness!

2nd Annual Street Party to benefit ASU Art Museum

Entry is just $5 per person at the gate; kids 12 and under are free.

The ASU Art Museum Street Party is an exciting annual event that includes live music, hands-on art activities and games for kids until sundown, and an on-site exhibition of work by local artists curated by the ASU Art Museum. Self-described “Acoustic Symphony Indie Rock” band Dry River Yacht Club is confirmed to play at this event, along with ASU Latin Jazz Combo, The Market and SourceVictoria.

Food and drink will be available for purchase on-site, and an Indie Chic art fair will have beautiful hand-made arts and crafts for sale by local artists.

Proceeds from the event benefit ASU Art Museum’s exhibitions, programs and educational outreach. The 2009 Street Party was VOTED BEST OF PHOENIX in Phoenix New Times.

About the location:
This landmark mid-century modern building located at 2nd Ave. and Indian School Road was once home to Valley National Bank. It was acquired in 2005 by Hoskin Ryan Consultants who, together with Jack Black of OWP/P architects, brought the building back to its original glory while adapting its use for a modern engineering firm.
